Sunglasses either disappear on your face or take it over — there's rarely an in-between. Getting the fit right does more for how a pair looks than colour or shape ever will, which is why every style at Groovy is sorted into three fits: Small, Medium, and Large. Here's how to figure out which one is yours, with real pairs to start with in each.

Measure before you guess

Stand in front of a mirror and hold a ruler flat against your face, ear to ear, at eye level. That number is your face width — the single most useful thing to know before choosing a frame.

  • Under ~13.5cm — Small Fit
  • ~13.5–14.5cm — Medium Fit
  • Over ~14.5cm — Large Fit

Treat it as a starting point, not a rule — the shape of the frame matters as much as the width, and the only real test is trying a pair on.

Small Fit

Built for narrower faces and smaller features. A frame that's too wide is the most common sunglasses mistake we see — it slides, it dominates, and it never quite sits right. Right now we keep this fit tight and deliberate — two frames, both proven favourites, rather than padding it out with styles that don't really belong here.

Cali sunglasses

Cali — $100

Our most affordable frame — bamboo temples, a clean round shape, and one of the lightest pairs we make.

Flat sunglasses

Flat — $120

A modern-retro square in recycled PET with a matte finish — small-to-medium, lightweight on your face.

Medium Fit

The most universal of the three, and where most of our styles live. If you're not sure which category you're in, this is the safer place to start.

Breeze sunglasses

Breeze — $120

A round retro shape in recycled PET, in seven colourways — the widest colour range we offer in one style.

Zephyr sunglasses

Zephyr — $150

Bamboo-framed, vintage round styling — a quieter pair for everyday wear.

Sheila sunglasses

Sheila — $150

A delicate round frame with real wood temples and a warm crystal finish — soft, refined, effortless.

Large Fit

For broader faces, or anyone who prefers a frame with real presence. This is also where our boldest shapes tend to sit, because there's enough face to carry them without the frame taking over.

Aviator sunglasses

Aviator — $200

Laminated burl wood, classic aviator silhouette — our flagship frame, and no two grain patterns are alike.

Gaia sunglasses

Gaia — $150

Oversized square with bamboo temples and a marbled crystal finish, paired with gradient lenses.

Manly sunglasses

Manly — $200

A bold squared wayfarer in laminated ebony wood, named after the beach it was designed on.

One thing every fit has in common

Whichever size you land on, every pair we make — Small, Medium, or Large — carries the same polarised, UV400 lenses and the same materials story: recycled plastic, bamboo, wood, and acetate, shaped at Manly Beach. The fit changes how it sits on your face. It doesn't change what's protecting your eyes.
